As a man, I think this song is just the strongest message out there. Boys don’t get a free pass for everything, nor should they. I sent this song to my best friend who is a strong advocate of women’s rights and equality. It’s now on loop for her. As for me, been having this song on my top ever since it’s been released and I’m shocked it hasn’t been more of a success

The contrast between "boys will be boys" and "girls will be women" is powerful. To me it highlights how young girls are sexualized long before they become women. They're seen, physically, as women before they hit adulthood. And because they mature "faster," they're not only expected to be more mature than boys emotionally, but they're told to be ever so mindful of how they present themselves physically when they're around boys. Meanwhile "boys will be boys" at any age because that's just how they are; they just don't know any better.

"And put your keys between your knuckles when there's boys around" this. My mom taught me this young young around like 5 or 6, when we would walk up the street to the store. I was always scared of using this method of protection because I didnt want to physically hurt someone. My mom told me simply "your have a kind heart, but the people you would use this on are trying to hurt you, you are just getting to them first." I have had to use this method of protection twice, and a few of my lady friends have use it aswell...

My mom did too when I was older! When I was a small child (I was pretty shy and timid with strangers) she used to tell me "if someone tries to hurt you or grabs you you fight with all you can! You hurt them you kick, you scrach you bite andyou scream at the top of your voice for help!" I will always remember her intense look when she told me. Never had to fight though. Most of the time I got in a tricky situation I was so angry that the guy was so baffeled they backed of long enough for me to disapear. Have that from my dad. When we get realy angry it is quit impressive and any sane human rather backs off...

I mean I wouldn't call it courageous because most people are going to agree with her. But its definitely an important song for people to hear because it tackles the actual root of what feminism should be about. I'm sick of women constantly blaming all their problems in life on men and saying how oppressed they are all the time. That's annoying as hell. However this tackles women's safety and the things we actually suffer with. And I like how she doesn't just say all men are bad. She says that the ones who are dangerous is because that's what they were taught. Very well written song. Unlike all the other mainstream pop junk that like "wahhhhh men suck women better am I right ladyssss"

same. a lot of people might say 'but feminism is already popular' but there are still so many people who refuse to understand and continue to support this problem. it may seem like many people support feminism, but yall will be really, really surprised to seee the amount of people who don't, honestly. i'm in love with the lyrics of the song, it isn't vague and doesn't repeat some cliche 'ladies better women better/girl power', we've got enough songs like that. instead, this one addresses our huge problem that many women face, like not being able to go out and feel safe, or victim blaming. perfect lyrics, perfect song, and i wish more people would listen to it

The boy sitting next to me said, “you can’t have that, that’s a boys lunch box and those are boys movies.” Confused I responded, “but Hermione’s in them and she’s a girl.” He replied;“ she’s only in them for the boys to look at.” I told the teacher and all he said was “you know how boys are.” EDIT: He was also 5.

Something similar happened to me. I was in like second grade or something, and I had gotten a pair of spiderman boots on my birthday. When winter came around I was so excited to finally get to wear them in the snow. So I wore them to school, and dumb boy says, "You know those are BOY boots right?" Me: "no there not," Boy: "yes they are they have spiderman on them and he's a boy superhero," I hated those boots from that day out. I did not want to wear them to school, but my mom had me wear them. So I covered up spiderman with my snow pants and hid my boots in my backpack for the rest of winter. I've had other experiences with this as I'm more of a Tomboy than girly girl, but this one sticks to me the most. Also I LOVE Harry Potter. My last birthday party was Harry Potter themed 😎

The kids aren't alright. In fact, young girls, especially in my middle school, are always being sexually harrassed. My school counselor told me, "Well, boys will be boys. Sign this paper and tell me everything that happened." I didn't realize the ignorance until weeks later. I wasn't given the comfort I needed. Nobody told me, "I believe in you, you can get through this.", or, "I'm sorry this happened to you." This frustrates me that boys are given excuses for this stuff because of standards. Sexual abuse IS NOT EXCUSABLE. EVERYONE, no matter boy or girl, DESERVES IGNORANCE. Edit: Thank you so much for your kind words and replies. I greatly appreciate it :)

(kinf of a relevant message) What society doesn't understand is that there will always be girls who want to be themselves but can't because they are held back by family, religion, social image, etc. I am a 15 year old girl living with my family who stops me from wearing clothing that goes above my waist because their reason is "you'll look like a sl*t.", "someone will rape you if you go to a party looking like that." and things like "only hoes wear that.". And when I try to reason it's what every girl wears nowadays they'll brush it off. I understand that listening to your parents is a good thing, and I do. They'll let my older and younger brother do anything they want since they are boys. Being the only daughter I can't do anything they do, I'm expected to clean their rooms and do everything for them when I get married I'm expected to do everything for my husband. My true aspiration is to become an independent model and wear whatever I want. I may not have the ideal big boobs, slim waist, thick thighs body image but I want the world to know no matter your size, skin color, sexuality, religion, or anything else that comes a part of your identification, you can be just as beautiful as any model.I want to spread the message that women are a powerful gender and that we can do anything without men. I also understand that some men are supportive and would welcome them to our fight of sexual equality. PLEASE SPREAD MY MESSAGE AND HELP THE PROBLEM BE RECOGNIZED.

welp i am offended by this song, guess theres something wrong with me. Probably due to me not conforming to the educations standards for a good student, a model based off of girls to the detriment of boys.Maybe due to the fact that I am blamed for all of societies problems due to me being a straight white male, even though im still a child and have done nothing wrong. I will be called a mysoginist for daring to express myself. I walk home scared late at night, but it doesnt matter if i get killed, because another man did it to me and that makes it ok. I have any problems as a man? Probably mens fault. I may be falsely accused of a sexual crime, but it wont matter that she confessed to lying about it, in the court of public opinion i am a criminal. My reputation is destroyed and i will lose everything. My wife will divource me and take everything from me, and when i dont met the crazy high alimony, i wont be able to see my kids and will be called a deadbeat by society. I will eventually end my own life, but nobody will care because in todays society, men are expendable and men are resources.

PS. Decades ago? The sexism in work environment in the 80s and 90s was still very noticeable

I'm from Asia and I think these type of songs need to be taken seriously because the "double standards" for girls or women is a global issue. We need to get the gender equalities somehow in the world because it's just so unfair.Seeing all of the girls (I'm a girl too) or women accepting hates, unfair treatment, and the "you should be perfect, you body, your face, your personality, etc".It's just so sad.

I’m an eleven year old and literally nobody cares how mature or immature you are. I’m to an age where boys and girls hang out with each other and don’t find it weird and we have been for a while I know the girls in and around my age and no one cares about maturity. you’re so openly and bluntly wrong if you think that you are right with this. This is one reason I dislike feminists so unexplainable much is you make stupid and unsupported arguments. I actually cannot fathom that someone would make a statement like this so out of the blue and with literally zero evidence. I can safely say that no one gives a shit about how mature you are at my age or anywhere around my age. Like can feminists just stop with this. I’m so done with this type of stupidity you make completely wrong statements that you have zero evidence to support. I legitimately cannot understand what went through your mind when you wrote this comment because you were maybe drunk. I’m a numbers guy and call me offended (it scares me so much) but this is just wrong, like it’s extremely black and white. You make me pissed and honestly I’m disappointed to be the same species as you and I’m one hundred percent serious when I say this. Just stop your so obviously wrong.

You also demonstrate my second favorite feminist quality is that you don’t accept that you’re wrong and you reply with some stupid shit. You know that you’re wrong, leave the comment thread. I get so pissed seeing people like you it makes me think of humanity in a different light. I’m not offended I’m expressing annoyance and anger but at a much higher degree. You have such a completely twisted sense of right and wrong you reply with passive aggressiveness. Your wrong yet you don’t delete the comment because you think your right. Your original comment is so passionately written I can tell as young as I may be that you will not change your mind. It’s wrong and that’s case closed it’s open and shut, black and white you’re wrong. What really pisses me off is how you came to that conclusion. You deep down know that you have zero evidence to support this you’re just like any other leftists you write with you’re heart not you’re brain. I truly, truly don’t understand how someone can write a comment like this so obliviously. Do you not think about what you write? Because I really doubt it. You make me want to punch a wall and my classmates and every one I know don’t see me as an angry or easily angered person. That first clause is what really grinds my gears you understand that you’re wrong enough to the point that you have to start you’re statement with something like “I’m so tired” or “why does ___ have to happen” which demonstrates your strong feelings. Deep down you know that your not right you know, so tell me please why you wrote this comment is it to fish for likes, or to gain subs. Tell me why because your wrong and you know it so again I say why?

This song is not about sexual violence. It's about how society excuses boys even when they should be held accountable. This results in girls actually growing up and becoming responsible for far more than they should be including their own safety while boys just don't. The song is not blaming the boys. It's blaming the people saying these things in the hearing of kids and not raising them right.

My favorite song on the album , because it describes how girls/ women are treated and how this phrase ( boys will be boys) is used by society to excuse males when they do wrong things such as sexual harassment, and blame girls for getting harassed or even raped. This song really hits me because I’m an arab girl(middle eastern) and women here are treated horribly. Who LOVES Dua Lipa?!?! Reasons why.. 1. She has a beautiful voice 2. She is beautiful 3. She is so kind and everything to us! p.s: Dua Lipa makes this song feel so good, because it proves that girls turn into women and change the world by them following their dreams, and doing what's right!

I'm rather amazed about the comments and replies I've read. In my opinion, this song's about one letting you know their situation and experience. And what do you do when someone does this? You let them know what they went through is valid and support them. Not the opposite.

@@brockcharz2104 it's not the same, because this song talks about how girls from a young age have to look out and be aware of harassers and how the phrase" boys will be boys" is used to take the blame off these uneducated boys. So if you are offended by this song, then you probably have one of their traits and it offends you that she's telling the truth. She is not here to take men down, she talks the truth about those who actually think that.
